Videos: The struggle is real

Ohhhh my GOSH, I have a GREAT idea for a video! Ok, I’m going to shoot this… right after I take a shower and get out of my yoga pants…

I love videos. Why don’t I make them more often? I should do Periscope. Definitely. I love interacting with my audience.

Ok… so I just have to set up this light here… ok, no… that throws a really weird shadow. Why does it look like I have a black eye? Did I not put on concealer? No… I did… like 5 coats. It’s that stupid light again. Move it… here… ok.

Ready. Let’s do this!

WTF is going on with my hair here? I swear it didn’t look like that before I hit record. And what is going on with my face???!! Does it look this fat in real life? Like, every single time I open my mouth? And my eyes are definitely not even. Am I the only person in the world who doesn’t have even eyes? Or eye brows? How do girls even do their eyebrows anyway? I always look like an old lady who drew them on. Maybe if I move that light again…

Ok, the hair is fixed. Face is a lost cause. Let’s edit… this isn’t so bad. Ok, definitely a usable take. Wait… where did that zit come from? Do I need more makeup? I put on double just for today. I can’t even leave the house like this, I have enough makeup on to scare children. How is it not covering that zit?

Alright, makeup fixed. I swear to GOD if I can’t get rid of this shadow… I KNEW I needed a better light for this. Why is this room so dark? Ok… maybe if I just turn my desk so I’m sitting in the corner… ok, that’s better. But I can’t move. That’s ok. Just record this stupid thing and get out of here. Is it seriously 3PM already? How does a 3 minute video take alllllll day to shoot? I’m using this take if it kills me, I don’t care. I’m not wasting an entire day for nothing.

It’s fine. I just need to accept that I need a new light. And a backdrop. I never even noticed this wall needs to be painted. It’s not even white on camera! Ugh. Ok. I’ll just run to Best Buy and grab a light.

Ok, so Best Buy does not carry video equipment. No problem. Amazon. Great. It won’t be here until Monday…. Welp. Blog post it is.

Can you relate?

This was me (and sometimes still is) for the longest time. If you feel the pain, grab the toolkit. I reveal the tools that finally worked for me. Now, shooting a three minute video takes just that – 3 minutes – instead of all day like it used to. It took a while, but it finally got better for me!

And it’ll get better for you too… promise 🙂
