This one business skill will help get your TIME back

By Sandy

When I left my job teaching communication at the local college, I had one goal in mind: create enough freedom of location and freedom of time so that I could homeschool my son.

The journey has been tougher (and has taken longer) than I expected.

I played with business models. First, opening an e-commerce store (plenty of time, tough on location).

I ran a podcast, with the hopes of growing an audience to eventually monetize…. Somehow (wasn’t too clear on that).

Partly on accident, partly because I was running out of time and patience, I tried the service provider model.

Great on location. Not great on time.

Boost Sales Like You Have Magic Powers

I’m getting there. But there’s one skill that has been a lifesaver throughout the entire journey – copywriting.

And through working with a number of businesses – e-commerce, media-preneurs, info-products, affiliates… I can tell you that for all of them, copy is the number one tool that helps them reclaim their time back.

Consider this list of essential tasks your copy performs on the daily:

  1. Marketing – content marketing, drip email marketing, social media, etc.
  2. Advertising – self explanatory
  3. Sales – sales pages, pre-sale emails, product descriptions
  4. Customer service – FAQ, After purchase auto-responders
  5. Lead generation – SEO, web copy

And those are just a few.

If we thought of copy as part of your team, she’d handle the entire front office. Copy finds your clients, reals them in, sells them, services them, and upsells them.

It’s a big job.

So how’s your copy working for you? Is it performing well? Or are you underutilizing her talents?

One of the easiest, least expensive, and most lucrative ways to utilize copy in your business is through an effective autoresponder sequence.

I know what you’re thinking… we’re overwhelmed with emails… who wants more?

But hold up for a minute.

Are you playing to win?

Check your inbox. Chances are, you’ll see emails pop in on the regular from the big guys in retail and digital. But dig through a little more for the local shops, the small service providers, the boutique shops, or the artisan shop… I bet they’re missing.

But those are the businesses who have something to say. And I bet you fall under one of those categories.

You’re probably a small business owner who has more intimate relationships with your customers because you deal with them one-on-one. You’re not running a huge operation with customer service reps in Indonesia.

Cool. Now it’s time to talk to them on a personal level, through their inbox.

GET YOUR TIME BACK

Of course, this is all to increase brand awareness, improve your know like trust, and all that ultimately drives sales.

But there’s another reason you’ll want to implement autoresponders. They’re a huge time saver.

When you’re copy is rolling out for you, without you lifting a finger, your time is suddenly free to work on a new product, to bill more hours, or to produce more content. However you make your revenue – you can do more of it.

Or you can take an adventure and step away from your business for a week or two (imagine that).

(Or…. you can just chill on the couch with some Netflix. No judging.)

No matter what you do with your extra time, that time is yours.

TAKE ACTION

Ready to take your time back? Here’s your challenge:

  1. Create a list of all of your front facing functions (upselling, sales, marketing, product education… whatever you can think of).
  2. Pick just one that you can automate.
  3. Create 3-12 emails to drip out to your prospects, new customers, dead leads… whoever you want to target.
  4. Load ‘em up in your autoresponder.
  5. Let ‘em rip.

There you go. Work once, reap the rewards many times. Let those run for you, and you can focus on other things while your autoresponders do your front end tasks for you.

YOUR TURN

I want to hear from you – which front-end task will you let your copy take care of first?
