It was August, 2014 and my just-turned-4-year-old son was about to race in his very first triathlon.
It involved swimming 25 yards, biking a mile and running 1/4 mile.
I was a nervous wreck. Mostly because he a) couldn’t swim and b) couldn’t ride a bike (ehhh… details, right?)
He wasn’t ready. It took every last bit of strength to not shout, “DON’T GET IN THE WATER” before he hopped right on in like a pro.
He wanted this so bad. I had to bite my lip.
In another second, the airhorn blew and he was off. The race was in motion. And he just went about that thing as if he’d been training his whole (short) life.
Now of course, I didn’t let the poor kid get in that water unprepared.
We had built some safe guards into place. He had his swimmies on, and he was all set to use his glider (it’s like a bike without pedals) for the biking part. I still didn’t think he was ready, but he was determined to prove me wrong.
Today is the first day of a 10 day challenge where I (and others) are committing to posting 1 video, going live on streaming, or taking the stage each day for 10 days.
It’s kind of like that triathlon. We might feel like we’re not ready. Like we should wait until next year. Or, that we should just hang up our video marketing hats and move on to something less difficult. Less scary. Less…. vulnerable.
But then I remember… I’m not unprepared. I’m ready to rock this. I set up the safeguards.
This is the first tip in the video series. All of the tips will focus on crafting a message, developing your strategy, or finding the courage to put yourself out there.
Today, it’s about finding your clarity, so your message is most effective.
