This morning, I woke up with a terrible feeling… that feeling of Monday mixed with the dreaded emotion of going into the office.
I panicked, realizing that I hadn’t yet packed lunches and I didn’t even know what my son was wearing today. ?
Frantically fumbling for my cell phone, I checked the time.
Then it all hit me… we have absolutely nowhere to be.
It’s been years since I’ve had to be at a job that I hated, but for some reason, that emotion still sat with me and crept into my sleep.
I don’t miss it.
I’m lucky enough to work from home, doing something I love AND home-school my son. It’s a double win.
And I’m SO grateful for low-stress mornings, working in flow, hand-picking my clients, and time with my little one as I watch him learn and grow.

I think I always knew that the regular 9-5 life wasn’t for me, but it took a long time to formulate the thoughts about what I actually wanted my life to look like.
Then, it took even longer to articulate those thoughts to others in a way that would get them onboard and attract paying clients.
Most people still don’t understand why I do what I do, and why I don’t just “get a job,” when clearly it would just be easier…
But there are a few reasons.
First, selfishly maybe, I want to do what I want with my life. We only get one (as far as I know), and the feeling of letting it slip right by as I work for someone else gives me a terrible pit inside my stomach.
I don’t want to be on someone else’s schedule. I don’t want to miss those little moments in life, or rush right by them while I’m hurrying off to the office, or sitting in traffic on the 215 Beltway,.. Who needs to spend 2+ hours a day on a highway, anyway?
Second, I want to change the world.
I know, big goal. Out of reach. Who am I do make such a statement? I think that every day.
But I do believe that everyone who is choosing a different path is altering the world, even if just a little at a time.
I think that the freedom to be financially stable while working independently, on your own schedule, and in a chosen location is important… especially for women who are often responsible for taking care of children or elderly family.
I know many of you are already living your dream. I just wanted to express gratefulness this morning for the technology and culture that have made this possible during our lifetimes! ?
What does your morning look like today?
